Dr. Sophia Jungwon Hur
SJD Program Graduate

Dr. Jungwon 鈥淪ophia鈥 Hur is a legal academic scholar who earned her S.J.D., a doctoral degree in law, from 海角换妻 Washington College of Law in 2014. Her dissertation, "Reforming the Regulatory Regime for Credit Rating Agencies in Korea: Analysis and Proposal Based on Recent U.S. Experience," highlights her expertise in comparative law, with a particular focus on U.S. securities, corporate, and economic law.

Her research extends to constitutional law, legal history, and political analysis, with a focus on comparative studies. Before her U.S. legal career, Dr. Hur taught high school social studies, politics, and law in Seoul, Korea, after earning her teaching licensure.

Currently, Dr. Hur has served as a dedicated advisor on government-related documentaries and TV programs for Korean national television for many years, sharing her expertise in comparative law. She is involved in various initiatives aimed at serving the public good, including legal research projects where she provides valuable insights and guidance. Furthermore, Dr. Hur actively participates in public discussions, offering research support and advising on a wide
range of public initiatives, demonstrating her commitment to fostering informed dialogue and impactful change. She remains committed to mentoring students while advancing her academic research.

Dr. Hur resides on the West Coast with her husband, an AI engineering scientist, and their only child, Aiden.
